Our Seventh District Congressman Billy Long is featured in
a National Journal article about hot new fundraising spots in Washington. In the section on a business known as Hill Country, the fundraising is described in this way:
There's nothing like some good, ol' smoked meat to connect you to the people. So thank goodness for Hill Country, a Texan-style barbecue restaurant that opened last year in Penn Quarter and has hosted at least 16 parties since, according to the Sunlight Foundation.
"The Texan delegation is really large and they got excited about [the restaurant's opening]," says Hill Country spokeswoman Melissa Gold. "We're completely different than another stuffy room. It makes you feel like you're not in a suit and tie even if you are."
Different, indeed. Tickets to a fundraiser for Rep. Billy Long, R-Mo., were based on whether attendees wanted to be a rancher ($5,000), buckaroo ($2,500), cowboy ($1,000) or a lowly ranch hand ($250).
