Todd Akin: Government shouldn't set minimum wage

(From the Claire McCaskill campaign)

At a Republican debate in March, Todd Akin showed that he is completely removed from the needs of middle class families when he advocated for abolishing the minimum wage. The minimum wage was established as the floor for the middle class to rely on during uncertain economic times.

Akin: Government Shouldn't Set Minimum Wage. “Yeah my belief on this is just another example of a wrong thing that the government does.  I don't think the government should be setting the prices or wages on different things.  I don't think that's the function of the government.” [KMOX Debate, 3/16/12]

“Another day and another extreme policy position from Todd Akin that would have devastating ramifications for Missouri’s middle class,” said Erik Dorey, McCaskill for Missouri spokesman. “While Akin has advocated for an end to the minimum wage, Claire’s fought to protect this critical safety net for Missouri’s working families. These families deserve to keep a Senator like Claire, who’s always been a Senator on our side.
