MSU instructor accused of stabbing murder of professor

A Missouri State University instructor was charged with second degree murder, assault, burglary, and two counts of armed criminal action after an attack Wednesday that killed an MSU professor emeritus and injured his wife.

Police say they found alleged killer Edward M. Gutting, 43, walking the streets covered with blood.

The murder victim was Marc Cooper, 66, an emeritus professor at the university.

From the KY3 report:

According to the probable cause statement, Gutting broke into the Cooper home wielding a knife and chased Cooper around, stabbing him repeatedly.

Cooper's wife was hurt when she tried to stop Gutting.

Gutting allegedly threatened her, telling her he didn't want to kill her-- but would if he had to.
