Probable cause statement: Carthage man told girlfriend if she opened the door "they'll find you dead in the hallway"

A Carthage man is being held without bond after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend of 20 years and threatening to kill her.

Phillip Gregory Boyd, 52, was charged with domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest after the incident, which occurred Thursday at the Days Inn, 1441 W. Central, Carthage.

According to the probable cause statement, the incident occurred at the room where the woman, identified as "L. D," was staying. Boyd knocked on her door and when she cracked it open, he pushed the door and entered the room.

When she said she was going to leave, Boyd told her, "Open the door. As soon as you do, they'll find you dead in the hallway." The probable cause statement said Boyd was carrying a metal, club-like weapon.

When Carthage police officers arrived, the two were arguing. When an officer tried to put handcuffs on Boyd's wrist, he pulled away and eventually had to be subdued by two officers.

The probable cause statement indicates Boyd has a long criminal history dating back to 1983 that includes nine assault charges, three for armed criminal action, one for endangering the welfare of a child.
